Kenwood Blend-X Fresh blender at a glance

If you’re looking for a no-frills blender that’s lightweight and easy to move in and out of the cupboard, the Kenwood Blend-X is worth considering.

The plastic jug isn’t as hardwearing as some we’ve reviewed, but for simple blending tasks, that doesn’t matter.

It’s available in black or white and there are no additional accessories included, so your cupboards won’t be cluttered with parts that you don’t use.

How easy is the Kenwood Blend-X Fresh blender to use?

The jug can’t go in the dishwasher, but the blade assembly unscrews from the bottom so it’s easy to give it a thorough clean. And the 1.5-litre working capacity is plenty for most people blending needs.

If you’re looking to blend big pans of soup though, you’ll have to do it in batches. You’ll also have to wait for it to cool as the instruction booklet says not to blend anything that’s above room temperature.

With just three speeds and a pulse setting, all selected via the main dial, it’s very intuitive to use. There’s an additional ice crush button that should be operated in short bursts, like a pulse button.

It took a whole minute of pressing and releasing it to crush six ice cubes, which is the maximum amount of ice allowed, the crushed texture was good though.

Results

We used the maximum speed setting for a root vegetable and kale smoothie, and it was completely blitzed in just 30 seconds.

A thick yoghurt and frozen berry smoothie posed more of a challenge though, and we had to stop it to stir the mixture three times during the 60 second blend. It made short work of tomato sauce though, blitzing it to a smooth consistency in just 15 seconds.

Suction cups on the feet keep it stuck to the counter during use, but young cooks will need supervision as it lacks any safety features to stop it being switched on without the lid in place.

The lid twists easily into position and has a removable cap for adding ingredients, but it doesn’t have a tight seal, so you’ll need to make sure you don’t over fill it.

How sustainable is the Kenwood Blend-X Fresh blender?

It came with minimal plastic in the box, and most of the packaging was recyclable cardboard. And there’s a 12-month warranty should anything go wrong, although the manual also gives contact details for servicing, spare parts and repairs in or out of the warranty period.
