Method

  • step 1

The night before serving, stir the cinnamon and 100ml water (or milk) into your oats with a pinch of salt.

  • step 2

The next day, loosen with a little more water (or milk) if needed. Top with the yogurt, berries, a drizzle of honey and the nut butter.

What are overnight oats?

Overnight oats are basically oats which have been left to soak overnight in milk or water, rather than being cooked in the morning. This no-cook method allows the oats to absorb the liquid overnight and soften them so that they are ready to eat in the morning. This makes overnight oats a quick and easy breakfast option, and you can easily customise them with different toppings and sauces.

Variations on overnight oats

You can find plenty of ideas for mixing up this versatile breakfast in our collection of overnight oat recipes. We've got everything from banana overnight oats to carrot cake overnight oats.

Added four mix seeds, dried apricots, dates and a teeny bit of brown sugar. Even my husband takes some to work.

I had some coconut milk to use up so used this instead of milk, with a 50/50ratio to water. Added a mashed banana, cinnamon and peanut butter over night. Topped with coconut yogurt, fresh fruit, chia & pumpkin seeds with a drizzle of honey for a feast of goodness !

Healthier than those breakfast cereals you can buy at the shop but likely no better than a normal porridge of the same size.
