Samuel Groves stainless steel non-stick frying pan summary

Looking not dissimilar to the kind of frying pan you’d find in a professional kitchen, this Samuel Groves frying pan is a high-quality piece of kit. The handle is long and ergonomic, serving to keep the hand away from the hot pan.

Samuel Groves offer a lifetime guarantee on this pan (if used correctly) and a 'pan for life' refurbishment scheme – the company will recoat the pan and replace worn handle rivets. It’s an expensive pan, but it’s designed to be the last you’ll ever need to buy.

How is the Samuel Groves stainless steel non-stick frying pan to use?

Before we even get to the pan, one of the things we love the most is that all of the packaging is completely recyclable. The pan itself comes in its own hessian sack that can either be recycled or used to store the bag when not in use. Full marks from us on the sustainability front.

The pan isn’t as thick as some of the other frying pans we’ve tested, but it still has a reassuring weight to it. The handle curves upwards and away from the pan, ensuring you keep your hand away from the pan. There is also an indented channel that runs the length of the handle, just wide enough to support the thumb when holding it.

The frying pan is oven-safe to 260C, meaning you can finish dishes off under the grill or make a delicious hob-to-oven dishes, like a Spanish omelette.

As expected considering the price, this pan is hand-wash only, though we think dishwashing would be overkill anyway: nothing sticks to this pan.

Results

Cooking a basic omelette in this frying pan is simply a joy. It takes around two minutes to heat up and we turn the temperature down after adding our eggs. The pan is responsive to changes in temperature, meaning we enjoy a perfectly cooked, fluffy omelette. The sides of the frying pan are nicely slanted, allowing us to get our spatula underneath with ease.

Our American pancake mix spreads a little further than we have like, but the pancakes produced are fantastic-looking. Both sides are evenly brown and smooth. The pancake inside is bouncy and fully cooked. No complaints from us.

Conclusion

There’s very little we don’t like about this pan. It’s great-looking, perfectly balanced and produces fantastic results – what more do you want from a frying pan?

While the price may be off-putting for some, it’s worth remembering that this is an investment piece designed to last a lifetime. If you’ve got the money to spend straightaway, this is a must-buy.
