  1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line a few baking trays with baking parchment. Melt the butter, condensed milk and syrup in a large saucepan.

  2. Very roughly crush the cornflakes in a bowl with your hands, then stir in the oats, flour, custard powder and bicarb, and mix really well.

  3. Once everything in the pan has melted, take it off the heat and stir in the dry ingredients. Roughly scoop heaped tablespoonfuls of the mixture onto the baking sheets. Crumble over a few more cornflakes, then squash to flatten a bit with your hands. Bake for 12-15 mins until golden. Cool on a wire rack.

The biscuits looked lovely when baked, but were unfortunately a great disappointment when it came to the taste! All the family thought they needed to be sweeter, and the bicarbonate of soda was too overpowering. Won't be bothering with these again :(

Made these with the children in our school cookery club. They loved making them and the reports back from parents were very favourable! It could just be the way our children work but the biscuits did turn out on the (very) large size!

Disappointing - the overwhelming taste was the bicarb of soda - never a good outcome when baking. I imagine they would be better with only 1 tsp of bicarb, but really can't be bothered to make them again as there are nicer recipes with butter, syrup & oats!

We loved these! I used honey instead of golden syrup so they had a delicious flavour. My children couldn't get enough of them!

These were awful! Completely tasteless and bland - I wondered if perhaps there was some ingredients missing like sugar or spices/vanilla - even my children didn't like them . .very disappointing as they looked and sounded lovely ..

Nice, bit like a hobnob, but not as good, needs a layer of chocolate? Not worth the calories! Who measures golden syrup by weight?
