Ingredients

  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 1 handful of mushrooms
  • 1 packet of bacon
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 pint of milk
  • 75g grated cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 500g spaghetti
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 large saucepan
  • 1 small sauce pan
  • 1 wooden spoon

    Method

    • step 1

      Put some water in a large saucepan and put to boil.
    • step 2

      Chop onions, mushrooms and crush garlic. Then chop the bacon after to avoid cross contamination.
    • step 3

      Heat up oil and fry vegetables until onions are soft not brown. Add the bacon and fry till cooked.
    • step 4

      In small saucepan melt the butter on a low heat and blend in the flour.
    • step 5

      Slowly add the milk and blend in until smooth. Increase heat and stir constantly until milk heats up thickens.
    • step 6

      When the sauce has thickened add cheese and blend in as it melts.
    • step 7

      When cheese has melted add to the bacon and vegetables. Stir in and bring back to simmering point.
    • step 8

      Add the egg and stir until its cooked.
    • step 9

      Add the spaghetti to the boiling water 12 minutes before serving and cook to taste.
    • step 10

      When cooked drain the spaghetti and toss in the carbonara sauce until evenly coated.

      Add parmesan and pepper to taste once served.
