KitchenAid Artisan 1.5-litre variable temperature kettle summary

This is a statement, eye-catchingly glossy kettle that does everything you need. It has a big footprint with a large base, and is, fittingly, shaped more like a traditional teapot than a jug kettle. Chunky, solid and highly effective, it’s shorter and squatter than most. We tested the ‘look at me’ red model, but there are seven other colours including cream and pistachio.

KitchenAid Artisan kettle: first impressions

The KitchenAid Artisan sits on a solid, matching base. It’s heavily branded – ‘KitchenAid’ features three times on its exterior, including twice around the bottom. It has a flip-up lid, controlled by a button on the top of the handle.

What features does the KitchenAid Artisan kettle have?

This kettle gives you a choice of temperatures for your water of between 50 and 100C, which you select by sliding a chunky knob along a scale at the bottom.

As well as being suitable for people who enjoy teas that requires a different temperature, it’s ideal for parents making hot-but-not-too hot drinks for children or for those using warm water for other purposes like cooking.

You can watch the temperature rise on not one, but two, gauges – a light-up one that charts the progress and a more precise analogue indicator in the middle of the kettle.

The kettle issues a light ‘bing’ when it starts and also when it’s boiled, which sound a bit like the noise a lift makes when arriving at a floor. It’s averagely speedy, taking around 2 minutes 24 seconds to boil a litre. Its dual wall design keeps water hot.

One thing to bear in mind – it’s one of the heaviest kettles we tested.
