Solid, melting sugar drops- works best in cold weather and humidity
- 2 2/3 cups of sugar
- 2/3 cup white karo
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/8 tsp salt *
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- STEP 1Beat egg whites to peaks
- STEP 2Put sugar, karo, water and salt in a saucepan. Mix slightly but do not stir. Cook until, when dropped in a bowl of cold water, the mixture becomes solid but not brittle. (265 degrees on a candy thermometer)
- STEP 3Immediately pour mixture into beaten egg whites, add vanilla (and food coloring, optional), and beat until mixture can be dropped onto wax paper with a spoon and remain solid.
