For the cheese cake
- Unsalted butter, 125 grams
- 1 egg
- Plain flour, 1/2 cup (64 grams)
- Castor sugar, 3/8 cups (48 grams)
- Baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon
- Cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon
- Cream cheese, 250 grams
- 1 egg
- Vanilla essence, 1 teaspoon
- Castor sugar, 1/2 cup (64 grams)
Method
- STEP 1Preheat oven to Gas Mark 3 (160 degrees) and prepare a cake tin.
- STEP 2We're making the chocolate cake first. Melt butter and add the cocoa powder to it. Leave to cool for around 5 minutes.
- STEP 3Add sugar and beat until sugar has dissolved.
- STEP 4Add the egg and continue beating.
- STEP 5Add the flour and baking powder. Mix until well blended.
- STEP 6Pour mixture into a cake tin and set aside.
- STEP 7We're now making the cheese cake.
- STEP 8Beat the cream cheese, egg, vanilla essence and sugar together until well mixed.
- STEP 9Pour mixture into the same cake tin.
- STEP 10With a palette knife, make swirls in the batter. One swirl around the cake tin is sufficient: too many and you'll lose the marble effect and end up with a chocolate cheese cake.
- STEP 11Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until inserted skewer comes out clean.
