Preheat oven to Gas Mark 3 (160 degrees) and prepare a cake tin.

We're making the chocolate cake first.
Melt butter and add the cocoa powder to it. Leave to cool for around 5 minutes.

Add sugar and beat until sugar has dissolved.
- STEP 4
Add the egg and continue beating.
- STEP 5
Add the flour and baking powder. Mix until well blended.
- STEP 6
Pour mixture into a cake tin and set aside.
- STEP 7
We're now making the cheese cake.
- STEP 8
Beat the cream cheese, egg, vanilla essence and sugar together until well mixed.
- STEP 9
Pour mixture into the same cake tin.
- STEP 10
With a palette knife, make swirls in the batter. One swirl around the cake tin is sufficient: too many and you'll lose the marble effect and end up with a chocolate cheese cake.
- STEP 11
Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until inserted skewer comes out clean.
