Ninja Foodi Health grill and air-fryer AG301UK summary

With a different look to Ninja’s classic drawer air-fryers, this model has a liftable lid and features attractive stainless steel as well as matte black plastic. It has a large footprint but is compact enough to fit under most kitchen cupboards even when the lid is open.

How easy is the Ninja Foodi Health grill and air-fryer AG301UK to use?

This model of health grill and air-fryer comes with a cooking pot, crisper basket and grill plate. It took us a couple of tries to get the orientation of the cooking pot right so it fitted into place, but otherwise we found setting up pretty easy.

Once you’ve selected your cooking mode from the five available functions — air-fry, grill, dehydrate, roast and bake — a temperature is preselected and then you can choose your cooking time. For the air-frying function there's a three minute preheating time before you add your food. There’s a light bar that helpfully indicates how far along the preheating is.

Cooking results

We air-fried our hand-cut chips for 22 minutes, and they were drier than we expected with very little fluffiness. Next time, we would have cooked them for less time and ensured they were thickly cut to retain more moisture.

We had more success on our aubergine and halloumi, which both had attractive grill marks similar to if we’d used a griddle pan. The halloumi had a satisfying crunch while the aubergine was tender in the centre.

How sustainable is the Ninja Foodi Health grill and air-fryer AG301UK?

Although our health grill was packaged in mostly cardboard and paper packaging, the body of the machine was coated in sticky plastic which was unfortunately not recyclable.

To calculate the energy efficiency of the Ninja Foodi Health grill and air-fryer, we conducted a simple test to calculate the average cost per kWh (based on a standard variable tariff of 16.6p/kWh) and ran the air-fryer for 10 minutes on the air-fryer setting. The cost totalled 2.98p, which is similar to other single drawer air-fryers and health grills we’ve tested.

Conclusion

If you want to get the most out of a mid-range budget this combined grill and air-fryer could be a really great option. Ideal for households of one or two people, we were impressed by the grilling capabilities of this model, and while it’s not as accomplished at air-frying as a traditional drawer model this design provides flexibility for making a range of dishes.
