  1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line a large baking sheet with baking paper. Whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Sift the flour and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl, then add the orange zest, hazelnuts and chocolate chips. Fold into the egg mix to make a soft dough. Tip onto a lightly floured surface, shape into a 25cm sausage shape with lightly floured hands, then transfer to baking sheet. Flatten to a 3cm thickness, then bake for 30 mins until lightly browned on top.

  2. Remove and slide onto a chopping board, then reduce the oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Cut the log into 1cm thick slices and return to the baking sheet, cut-sides up. Bake for 10-15 mins until crisp, then cool on a wire rack. Will keep in a tin for 3 weeks.

Absolutely delish! Just made them for my ever-hungry male housemates and we all loved them. Made a few little variations - added a pinch of salt and a few drops of vanilla extract, plus a bit more chocolate and nuts (used almonds instead of hazelnuts). I reckon the beauty of the recipe is that you can make any additions that you want; might try it again with some dried fruit. Easy to make, delicious and they look very professional.

Made these quite a few times, they are easy to make. Added extra hazelnuts as we are a nutty household!

I'm thinking of using roast chestnuts instead of hazlenuts - does anybody have an opinion on whether this may work??

Just made a variation of these, I used glace cherries and walnuts, delicious, oh and I added a few good drops of vanilla extract, yummy! Really easy to make too.

Made these yesterday and they were delicious, they disappeared in no time! Next time I will add a little vanilla extract though, and possibly some more chocolate.

Easy to make, tasted delicious, had to supplement hazelnuts with almonds (due to baking cupboard being raided!) will definitely be making them again.

I made this at the weekend - fab! We all thought it was better than the fruity biscotti. Will definately make again. Has anyone tried freezing it like the fruity christmas biscotti?

I didn't find these to lack flavour at all! The orange zest really comes through, and they were a hit among friends.
