Method

  1. Slit the cherries, but don’t cut them in half.

  2. Put in a pan with the sugar and 150ml water, then heat, stirring gently, until the juices run and the sugar has dissolved.

  3. Remove from the heat, then spoon into a large bottle or jar.

  4. Add the vodka and mix well. Seal, then leave for 4 weeks before drinking to let the flavours steep. For ice cold vodka, keep the bottle in the freezer (it won’t freeze solid) or simply decant into a carafe, if you like.

Help needed quick lol x...do you spoon the cherries and liquid into the vodka..or just the cherries ...Or just the liquid...

Last year i made toffee vodka , with a good food recipe , but i have misplaced it. seem to think it had more than the two ingredients than ive used , can anyone help please ?

Just made this for the first time,after reading some the comments I did leave it for 5 weeks.It's terrific!! I will be doing again next year with more fresh Cherries

This was really lovely, although I found that after the initial 4 weeks it tasted a bit weak, so I left it another 2 or 3 weeks in addition and then it tasted fantastic. Will definitely make it again next year when cherries are back in season. Currently making the Arrancello recipe (orange vodka) - another fantastic recipe on the GoodFood web-site. I also left the stones in when making this and it didn't cause any problems.

Mary Cadogan didn't say to stone the cherries, so I've left them in. This is the second time I've made cherry vodka, and I'm sure I left stones in last year, and I'm still here to tell the tale! It also disappeared pretty quick last time, so going to make a few more batches while cherries are still in shops. Let you know what this batch will be like month from now.

Put the whole lot into the bottle: juices, cherries, sugar and vodka. The whole idea is that the heat releases the juice, if not it would just be vodka with cherries floating in it! Nice, but not AS nice! Enjoy.

What isn't clear is whether you should put the juice into the bottle with the cherries?

Does this work with frozen cherries? I was going to do half a batch to try it and Aldi have frozen cherries which I bought to make jam so I was going to try using them for this

Hi there, thanks for your question. Yes it will work with frozen cherries too. You should sterilise the jars, although the alcohol preserves this too.
