Moist Peanut Butter Toast, with a twist of margarine

  • 1 Tub of Peanut Butter
  • 1 Tub of Margarine
  • 2 Slices of White Bread
  • 1 Toaster


    1. Pop the bread into the toaster.
    2. Once the toast is crispy golden, remove from the toaster, and immediately spread the margarine on whilst still piping hot.
    3. Evenly spread the peanut butter on top of the toast.
    4. Serve.

Also, with the price of peanut futures as it is, it is wise to get heavily into the peanut butter market now, to protect against any possible interest in this recipe from China. See how this has affected the price of milk and cheese.

With the current financial crisis, and rations inevitable you may not want to waste your limited margarine on this, so feel free to cook this dish sans margarine. However, as a luxurious treat, margarine can be used for those special occasions particularly with friends and family visiting. Because of the popularity of this dish, we must be diverse in our ingredients as Wilbury says, to steady the market. Therefore feel free to experiment with brown and white bread, wholemeal obviously not being quite as good. To replace peanut butter, serve plain toast with a bag of peanuts on the side. Please ensure that you take a bite of toast and drop a couple of peanuts into your mouth at the same time. Crunching without one of the bread or peanut ingredients could lead to catastrophic consequences where you think that you're just eating a bag of peanuts and some toast.

Sheppy, I think that you have outdone yourself with this recipe. I can see a future as a celebrity chef: writing cook books on the topic of toast-related snacks (ideal for any bachelor), appearing on Iron Chef (of course if the featured ingredient was bread, peanut butter or margarine) and releasing your own range of "Sheppy" branded toasters. What's next from your house of haute cuisine?

In light of the recent financial crisis, and the heavy losses on the stock market, many investors have moved out of stocks into other commodities - wheat, for example, has been very strong (I hear peanuts are doing quite well also). Clearly this recipe is pretty darn popular, but unfortunately the bull run on wheat and peanuts has driven up its cost to unprecedented levels. Could you please suggest some cheaper alternative ingredients in these hard times. Alternatively, if all of us use up our existing bread, marg, and peanut-butter supplies and make a mountain of delicious PB-on-T we could sell them short, flood the market and drive the price sharply down.. Who's on board?

On further review, I think maybe 'low-fat', 'low-salt' and 'less than 200 calories' might be inaccurate.

I can heartily recommend adding a banana (spread with a knife, not cut into pieces) and lemon curd. It's one of your five a day (possibly three if you count the lemons and peanuts).
