  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 400g beef strips, or steak cut into thin strips

The classic choice of meat for a British Sunday roast. Beef is full of flavour, as…

  • 1 red chilli, deseeded and finely sliced
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • handful basil leaves

  1. Heat a wok or large frying pan until smoking hot. Pour in the oil and swirl around the pan, then tip in the beef strips and chilli. Cook, stirring all the time, until the meat is lightly browned, about 3 mins, then pour over the oyster sauce. Cook until heated through and the sauce coats the meat. stir in the basil leaves and serve with plain rice.

Is this dish 178kcal including the rice per person?

This dish is very tasty no doubt and very quick and easy to make but I found it all rather one dimensional, maybes the addition of some mushroom, a few cashews and some spring onions and peppers would make it a bit more interesting, all in all though a nice tasting quick dinner.

Simple and easy but a bit bland. I would suggest more sauce, some garlic and some peppers, sliced.

I cheated due to lack of time and did 2 microwavable special fried rice with this. I used 3 tbsp of oyster sauce (didn't tell family, cos they're suspicious!) and 1 tbspl of soy sauce. It was met with wholehearted approval, but I'll go 4 tbspl oyster next time. Will defo do again!!!

So simple and quick yet such a tasty meal. I added a few halved mangetout as I needed to use them up and they added a nice splash of colour to the dish. My rather fussy husband thought it was delicious, especially served with noodles. I will definitely make this again!!

I made this with egg fried rice (rice cooked in veg stock, garlic, prawns and peas) and added green beans to the beef as suggested by others. I however added a few gluts of oyster oil and then added some water to make a thin sauce. This worked well as the sauce went into the rice stopping it from being too dry. My fussy 'where's the sauce' boyfriend liked this

Quick & tasty for very little effort, but you definitely need to add some vegetables if you want your 5 a day, and it won't serve 4 if you don't. I added an onion and some green pepper to the dish itself, and served with mangetout on the side. Will probably do it again.
