  • 2 cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground mixed spice
  • 50g sultanas
  • 4 sheets filo pastry
  • 25g low-fat spread (we used Flora Light), melted

  1. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Place the apples, sugar, mixed spice and sultanas in a saucepan with 2 tbsp water and cook, covered, for 6 mins or until the apples are soft, stirring once or twice. Tip into a shallow dish and spread out to cool slightly.

  2. Cut the sheets of filo in thirds lengthways, then brush lightly with the melted spread. Place a spoonful of the apple filling at the top of each strip, then fold over and over to form triangular parcels. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 mins until crisp and golden. Serve with low-fat yogurt, if you like.

My family really enjoyed these with custard. So easy and fun to make.

Made these today, absolutely gorgeous, I did use half a teaspoon of cinnamon instead of mixed spice. Thank you so much for posting this recipe, will definitely be made many times more.

I've made these with puff and filo pastry and both work a treat, though the latter was more fiddly but my dad and I had fun rolling and perfecting the triangles! (Dessert apples work great too and less sugar)

Easy to make. I had 2 massive bramley apples so did the other ingredients 1.5 x the quantity. On its own, it was quite sour, but was ok with ice cream. I used 6 filo sheets as well and still had left filling

Definitely the calories are per samosa-the sugar in the ingredients list is 200kcals alone :-) Making these this afternoon, so fingers crossed they turn out well!

I did these once and they were really good ... what I would like to know is, is it 196 calories per samosa or 196 calories per serving i.e. 4 samosas?

Any recipes out there for gluten-free filo pastry? Or is this a technical impossibility?

Hi there, thanks for your question. Freeze these before baking once they have been assembled.
