You'll need a waffle iron to make these warm, crispy waffles. Perfect with the kids for a Saturday breakfast, or top with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup for a quick and easy pud.

  • 250g (9 oz) plain flour
  • 1 dessertspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 450ml (16 fl oz) semi skimmed milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Method

    1. 1. In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Add milk, eggs and oil; mix well.
    2. 2. Pour desired amount of batter onto hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown.

Oh dear! What a disaster. Perhaps I should have followed the advice about leaving out the oil...it was way too runny and just made huge sticky mess.

I made these on my hot waffle iron and they were great! I halved the amount as I was only cooking for two and they made about 9 - depends on the size of the waffle iron I expect. I did add some vanilla essence, used only a pinch of salt (based on above review) and didn't add any oil to the recipe, but instead used it as and when to oil the iron. Wish I could add a photo!

Since loosing mu favourite recipe in a house move, I've tried making them with the above twice now and they always are gummy, salty and stick to the waffle-maker...
