Quick and Easy Chocolate Chip recipe (just like Millies)!!

  • 100g brown sugar
  • 125g unsalted block butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 225g Self Raising Flour
  • 200g chocolate (any kind!)
  • 1/2 tsp salt


    1. Pre-heat oven to 200oc Place butter and sugar in large bowl and mix well
    2. add the egg and vanilla essence and mix again
    3. sieve in flour and salt to mix and combine well.
    4. Cut the chocolate, but not to finely and add. Mix together then roll balls of mixture to about 2cm by 2cm and place on a baking tray with baking parchment on. Be careful not to put the cookies too close together.
    5. Place in preheated oven for 7-10 minutes. Repeat until all cookies are cooked.
    6. I use different kinds of chocolate and add nuts. For double chocolate cookies simply replace 50g flour with 75g chocolate powder.

Made them to the recipe - unfortunately they seem to think they are cakes and not cookies! Wouldn't make them again.

Made these with the kids, they are brilliant so easy and tasty. I only put 4 cookies on the tray first of all and added a further 5 mins to cooking time they were giant cookies. Next batch i made smaller cookies from the remainder around 7 and they came out lovely.

My daughter made these today with her 3 year old and 18 month old daughters.They turned out perfect and really tasty and buttery. I am going to do mine tomorrow for a friends birthday.

This recipe is great and so quick & simple! I had come down with some flu'y type bug but had wanted to make some easy chocolate chip cookies & came across this recipe which looked so simple that, even feeling as rough as I was, I could still concoct quickly and without loads of mess! This recipe fit the bill to a tee. It took about 5 minutes to do, once I'd measured out the ingredients, and only about 10 minutes for the cookies to bake (I used my ice cream scoop to scoop out blobs of the dough which I spaced apart on greaseproof paper on 2 cookie trays and left them 'rustic' looking, without fussing over making them look perfectly round, and I just lightly pressed them down a bit flatter). I was a bit apprehensive because I'd recently tried 2 other chocolate chip cookie recipes which didn't turn out too well, one of them, in particular, having turned out more like sponge than cookies and it was far too sickly sweet! I needn't have worried though. This recipe actually created proper chocolate chip cookies that amazingly were even a bit chewy in the centre, which I love! They taste lovely and buttery, are very yummy and are just like ones you'd have to pay a lot for if they were bought from a delicatessen, say, yet they're nowhere near expensive to knock up! The only slight alterations I made when making mine were that I used plain flour instead of self-raising (so I added 1 teaspoon of baking soda), when I tried to mix the butter and sugar together the butter was still a bit too hard to mix well so I ended up sticking the bowl in the microwave on a low setting for a few seconds to melt the butter/sugar mix slightly so I could cream it better and also once the mixture was all ready (just about) to make into cookie blobs and put into the oven it was a bit on the firm side so I just added a small amount of water to make it a bit softer and easier to scoop out in the cookie balls / blobs! Other than that, I followed the recipe and the cookies came out perfect! They still taste great 4 days later. This recipe is so quick and easy to do that it'd be perfect to do it with kids!

Hmmm I’ve just read loads of these comments. I guess your all doing them wrong, mine were perfect, all 3 batch’s, I didn’t flatten mine, the heat should do that, just rolled them into balls and put them on the oven. I made maple & pecans ones too, they were amazing, love this recipe, best tasting one I have used in years! If using salted butter don’t add the salt, simple.

Very cakey recipe, disappointing as the mixture doesn't spread and ends up staying in a cakey ball. Definitely don't recommend this cookie recipe.

This is a fabulous recipe as it is. The balls don't need to be squished down if you prefer Crispy cookies that stay soft in the middle. They are definitely not your average dry cookies and they're fine as they are.

I think this recipe is incorrect. There are 2 entries for 1/2 tsp salt. Should the other be 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda?

Super recipe though not like Millie's and they do need pressing down otherwise they bulge. Great flavour though x

they're a little on the drier side, add a little oil to make them not as flour-y :) but i really love them, gonna make them a third time soon!!

Put the Salt down man! these are cookies not scones! their supposed to be sweet, light and gooey, not flat and savory and tough! coming from someone who used to bake these all the time, during my whole childhood I've never heard of such a daft thing like putting salt in your sweets!

The main function of salt in recipes is to enhance the flavor of the other ingredients. Its presence perks up the depth and complexity of other flavors as the ingredients meld

Really tasty, substituted some of the flour for cocoa powder, they did not spread out, so pressing them down is a must

I found that you had to flatten these rather a lot! I made mine more of a 5cm in diameter, they turned out beautiful. Also, I put the dough into cling film and rolled into a sausage, sliced into 1cm discs then shaped.... makes life a bit easier!! Hope this helps!

Because the cookies don't spread much, take them out after 7 mins and flatten them with an oven glove and put them back in for the remaining time
