Tefal EasyFry Precision 2-in-1 air fryer and grill summary

Air frying is already seen as a healthier way of achieving a ‘fried-finish’ on food, but this Tefal model has taken this one step further – giving crisp results with 99% less added fat than other classic air fryers.

This is also one of the first air fryers on the market with a built-in grill, and among the eight preset functions are chips, meat, fish, vegetables, nuggets, roast chicken, pizza and desserts. With a 4.2L capacity, it offers good value and has a modest countertop footprint, and the brushed plastic base means greasy fingerprint marks are kept to a minimum too.

How easy is it to build?

This Tefal air fryer takes all of five minutes to put together – simply slot the grill into the base of the basket, then slide the basket inside and plug it in.

An online manual is available via the QR code on the side of the box, and while this is fairly self-explanatory, it could benefit from having written instructions rather than just diagrams. Not having a physical manual to look through may also be frustrating if you have trouble accessing the internet, though on the plus side we found the controls to be incredibly intuitive.

However, we did like the range of air fryer recipes inside the digital recipe book and the long cable offers lots of freedom around the kitchen too.

How easy is the Tefal EasyFry Precision 2-in-1 air fryer and grill to use?

The touchscreen display is a huge win: bright, modern and simple to navigate. Switch to manual mode for custom settings, or make your own DIY dried fruit snacks with the dehydration function. The die-cast metal grill grate is also impressively robust and heats quickly.

Dishes like steak and chips could be awkward since it’s not possible to use the grill and fryer simultaneously. We also found a few chips fell through the gaps in the grill, which we couldn’t retrieve until the grill plate had cooled down. Not to mention, this air fryer is pretty noisy – less than ideal if you’re cooking in an open-plan space. Cleaning it by hand, however, is a breeze thanks to Tefal’s famed non-stick coating.

Cooking results

Thirty minutes of pre-soaking, 1 tbsp olive oil and 25 minutes in the air fryer gave us crunchy, evenly golden chips that were well sealed and flavoursome. We had to give them a shake halfway through as advised in the manual, though there wasn’t any prompt from the air fryer to do so.

Our chicken breasts, roasted at 180C for 20 mins, also had an even brown colour and crispy coating, and though the meat wasn’t as juicy as we’d like, a slight reduction of the cooking time may have given us a more succulent texture.

We used the fish preset for salmon, which gave us a good amount of flakiness and crisp edges, though the browning was a little uneven. Our results using the grill were also mixed – the aubergine slices had good flavour and a few dark spots but lacked crispness, while the halloumi was evenly browned and had a pleasing elastic texture and consistent grill marks.

How sustainable is the Tefal EasyFry Precision 2-in-1 air fryer and grill?

Of the air fryers we’ve tested in 2023, we found this Tefal model to be one of the most energy efficient. We ran a simple test to calculate the average cost per kWh for variable-rate-tariff customers based on 31.8p/kWh, and after running the air fryer for 10 minutes on the manual setting, the cost totalled at 2.9p.

When it came to unboxing this model, we found some cardboard packaging that could be recycled. However, there was non-recyclable plastic wrapping around the air fryer, the metal grill, and the cord – and while this added an extra layer of protection during transit, it would have been better to see recyclable materials used.

Conclusion

There’s plenty to admire about the Tefal EasyFry Precision 2-in-1 air fryer and grill, from its compact footprint to the easy-to-use controls, not to mention its varied functionality. Some minor flaws aside, for the price, versatility and attractive design, it’s certainly earned its place on our kitchen counter.
