  1. To make the marinade, mix all the ingredients together and pour over the mackerel. Cover and chill for 30 mins.

  2. Heat grill and put the mackerel, skin-side up, on a baking sheet lined with foil. Grill for 5 mins, then turn and baste with remaining marinade. Grill for 5 mins more.

  3. Cook the rice following pack instructions, then drain and toss with the spring onions and pepper. Serve with the mackerel.

we love this, we have it quite often. A very cheap dinner but so much flavour.

This was tasty and really very easy. Nothing amazing here, but you don't have to put much time and effort in either! I added the marinade to the frozen fish in a foil parcel in the oven and then opened up the parcel for the last few mins of cooking. I added peas, runners beans and coriander to the rice. I enjoyed it however it was a little too sweet for my other half.

Loved the idea of the recipe, but at no point did I read how the mackerel itself is supposed to be cooked! Any ideas, anyone?

I left the marinade on for more than the stated time, which added to the flavour. I added mushrooms and courgettes and wilted spinach and also used wholemeal Basmati and wild rice - it's all I had. Very tasty! The marinade was very sweet and so I added more lemon juice, it was too sweet for me but my partner loved it so thank you :-)

Found mackerel too strongly tasting and clashed with sweet marinade. Not for me. Maybe with a different type of fish...

This recipe was yummy and really easy to do. The flavour of the marinade worked really well with fresh mackerel. I served it with basmati rice but chucked in some chives and pepper on top of the rice to steam for the last minute or so. I'll definitely do this recipe again.

This is yummy, and really easy. The honey gave it a great glaze and the soy and ginger a nice depth of flavour. I think next time I would double the marinade and use it as a sauce for the rice

Gorgeous flavours. Used fresh unsmoked mackerel and baked the fish in the marinade. Served it with vegetable risotto rice.
