  1. Bring a pan of water to a simmer. Add 2 eggs, simmer for 2 mins if room temp, 3 mins if fridge-cold, then turn off heat. Cover the pan and leave for 2 mins more.

  2. Meanwhile, toast 4 slices wholemeal bread and spread thinly with butter, then Marmite. To serve, cut into soldiers and dip into the egg, then a few mixed seeds.

THIS IS NOT LONG ENOUGH! Don't use this recipe, the yolks are borderline raw and snotty. Other BBC guides ask for 5-7 minutes boiling for a room temperature egg- use this as a guide. Hope my children are not Ill. Thanks.

Ok so I've never actually boiled eggs before as I don't like them. Decided to do this today for the kids and found this recipe to help with timings. Got the water boiling, popped the eggs in and left for the suggested 2 minutes. THIS IS NOT LONG ENOUGH BY A LONG WAY. First egg cracked open was liquid (white bit obviously), brought the water back to the boil and put the remaining eggs back into the water for another 2 minutes. Next egg cracked open was also liquid (white bit again). Had no more eggs so binned the lot and made the kids hotdogs instead I'm assuming everyone who has tried this successfully has just looked at the title as they already know how long boiled eggs take but, for a noob like me, I really needed that timing to be accurate. Most other sites seem to suggest 6-7 minutes, in hindsight I really should have looked at more sites first but nevermind eh

Loved the recipe the only thing was that the eggs were half raw! the yolk was runny but uncooked runny and half of the egg white was liquid! Had to find a way to save them :( the marmite and seeds was amazing though.

Great recipe which made perfect dippy eggs, thank you for this fail safe method for cooking eggs.

Yum! I've been having dippy eggs with marmite for a while but have never quite perfected getting the runny yolk but set white (I always either overdo the yolk or underdo the white - bleughhh!). These instructions were perfect, though. Thanks!

Love soft-boiled eggs, love Marmite, but think I'd rather stick with unspoiled buttered toast for this - though the seeds are an interesting addition. However - my contribution is that if you want perfectly soft-boiled eggs at 8,200ft (Colorado Rockies), boil for exactly 7 minutes (from fridge). Took me a while to work this out!

Just made this delicious breakfast, I have to say that I was a little unsure about the mixed seeds on the side but to my surprise it worked really well and tasted great! Will def make tins breakfast again and may even try it out on my husband!!

I put my fridge cold eggs onto hot but not quite boiling water and all of them split, so I had hard boiled eggs :( Has any one had success with cold eggs? I'm living proof that even with a recipe, some people can't (soft) boil an egg!
