Method

  1. Put the ribs in a large pan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 15 mins. Meanwhile, pour the hoisin sauce in a jug and stir in the soy sauce, honey, vinegar and five-spice.
  2. Drain the ribs very well, then brush with the glaze - if barbecuing, chill, cover and keep in the fridge for later.
  3. Heat the grill to high, if using. Grill or barbecue for 15-20 mins, turning from time to time until shiny and slightly charred in places. Serve hot.

We thought boiling the ribs initially sounded unapetizing, but gave it a go. WOW were we impressed. The end result was so tasty that we've now made them a few times for different guests and just for ourselves because they were so yummy. Can't wait to try them on the BBQ as we've only tried them over the Winter so far and so oven baked on a rack! Very easy to do, the kids love preparing them (& eating them).

These were delicious! I boiled them for as long as the recipe said and they were fine. They smelled a bit funny when I drained them, which put me off, but honestly, once that glaze is on and they're grilled, they tasted amazing, and they were so easy too!

These ribs were very tasty! I made them for friends last week and got great feedback, I cooked in the oven rather than grilled because other things were in too. Worked really well and dead easy!
