Apple mixture
- 3 Grannie Smith apples
- 75g White caster sugar
- Lemon zest (optional)
- Splash of water
Crumble topping
- 3 Grannie Smith apples
- 75g White caster sugar
- Lemon zest (optional)
- Splash of water
- 250g plain flour
- 125g unsalted butter
- 275g golden caster sugar
- 1 tsp Demerara sugar
- 1 tsp Muscovado sugar
- 1/2 tsp Nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla paste
Method
step 1
Prep your apples,(to achieve the most textures add different types of apples) Peel and core your apples then slice into chunks.step 2
When all the apples have been prepped, pour them into a medium size pot. Add a splash of water into the apples, turn on heat, sprinkle the sugar on top evenly then zest a lemon for an extra flavour, Place the lid on top for about 6-7mins until tender.step 3
Pour the flour into a medium size bowl, add the butter and rub the mixture with your finger tips. (Don’t over mix) when it’s all incorporated add the golden caster sugar, brown sugar, muscovado sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix together then add vanilla paste for some extra taste.step 4
Turn of heat, pour the apples into a heat proof bowl and sprinkle over the crumble mixture evenly.step 5
Put in oven at 180C, 350F for 30-35 mins until golden brown for a more crunchy texture add some brown sugar on top.
