Traditional greek lamb kleftiko made easy with the help of your slow cooker. Delicious and melt in the mouth.

  • 500g boneless lamb, cubed
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 4 med potatoes
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • 4 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 3 bay leaves
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 100g feta cheese, crumbled


    1. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a frying pan and brown the lamb on all sides. Place in the slow cooker.
    2. Wash and slice the potatoes and tomatoes, and add to the slow cooker.
    3. Peel and chop the onions and garlic and add to the cooker with the remaining oil, lemon juice, bay leaves and oregano.
    4. Season with the salt and pepper to desired amount and cook on the low setting for at least 6 hours.
    5. In the final 30-60 minutes add the crumble feta and stir.

After 6 hours I took the dry food out of my slow cooker and then make a vegetable stock and finished off in the oven. Reason being was the food didn't juice. The meat went dry and the spuds were still sliced bricks. Better off making a stock with this dish and do in the oven. Sorry but it doesn't work.

Disaster - one of the very worst slo cooker meals I have ever cooked ! lamb overcooked to get the potatoes cooked, feta all melted, too lemony, onions chewy.......nothing like the lovely dish i ate in Rhodes Town ! Think this is better cooked in the oven with lamb on the bone. So disappointed as I spent a lot of my Saturday buying the ingredients and cooking it.

Absolutely delicious! Thank you for the recipe! It was my first slow cooker recipe to try out and it was brilliant! So much flavour and the lamb just fell off and melted in the mouth - yum! (used a leg of lamb on the bone instead). The lamb definitely produced enough juice to cover the potatoes and any that weren't were easily poked down and covered. Such a great recipe we're making it again on Thursday!

This didnt turn out well for me at all, very bland, cooked for well in excess of cooking time and potatoes still very hard, rest was very tasteless, .like a very basic slow cooker casserole, where did i go wrong?

This recipe is wonderful. I followed it very closely but used fresh rosemary instead of the bay leaves as I didnt have any. It was in the slow cooker whilst I was at work (approx 8-9 hours) and the lamb was tender and the potatoes were cooked perfectly. Cant wait to make this again!

Cooks the lamb beautifully and tastes amazing. I did, however, experience the same issue as others with the potatoes not cooking so I would recommend parboiling them first or even leaving them out all together.

Did this but cut the potatoes into really small cubes. Fantastic would highly recommend

Superb! Used slowcooker and added moisted greaseproof as well....Loads of stock and so authentic. My first Kleftiko recipe I have tried that worked.......Thanks Laura.

I haven't got a slow cooker but risked it in a cast iron casserole and put moistened grease proof paper over the ingredients to stop loss of moisture during cooking and put lid on,went in a very low oven (120c) for about 5 hours and turned out a treat. Thanks for sharing.
