  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil or sunflower oil
  • a few drops of vanilla essence or other essence (orange or peppermint work well)
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips, nuts, or raisins etc (optional)

Method

  1. Add 4 tbsp self-raising flour, 4 tbsp caster sugar and 2 tbsp cocoa powder to the largest mug you have (to stop it overflowing in the microwave) and mix.

  2. Add 1 medium egg and mix in as much as you can, but don't worry if there's still dry mix left.

  3. Add the 3 tbsp milk, 3 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil and a few drops of vanilla essence and mix until smooth, before adding 2 tbsp chocolate chips, nuts, or raisins, if using, and mix again.

  4. Centre your mug in the middle of the microwave oven and cook on High for 1½ -2 mins, or until it has stopped rising and is firm to the touch.

Tasteless and bland. Amazing how to do a cake so quick, maybe adding toppings would help.

guys, this cake is amazing!!!! I used whole chunks of chocolate and it went like molten lava cake, delish. So quick and easy as well. just a tip for everyone, i made this in a bowl rather than a mug which works better.

I switched up the recipe a bit using 2 tbsp of sf flour instead of 4. Instead of 3tbsp of caster sugar I used 1tbsp caster sugar, 1flat tbsp of stevia, and squeezed half an orange for sweetness/moisture. No milk. Chucked in a few chia seeds and brazil nuts and it was pretty good for a 2 minute cake......and less calorific.

DO NOT MAKE THIS I do not usually comment but I have signed up today to warn others that this recipe is horrible. It is bland and flavourless. There is no sweetness at all and it tastes like the cocoa powder itself. The batter was still raw some parts throughout despite using a wide mug. I highly do not recommend attempting to make this "chocolate cake" and if you do, you may want to add a few tablespoons of regular granulated sugar.

I never review things, but I signed in just to review this. I usually just trust the star rating for recipes, but this has taught me to never trust the star rating alone! This makes a lot of cake, but it is so tasteless and bland, it's just not really worth it. I'm pretty sure by "biggest mug", they mean a soup mug or other WIDE mug, as I used one of these mugs (https://www.mumsofbrisbane.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/top-picks-kmart-300x225.jpg ) I got just before halfway through to find raw batter. When I microwaved it again for 30 seconds, it was full again, but when I had eaten about half of it I found more raw batter! I guess I now have a never ending mug of this hideous cake? End of the story: It's only worth it if you're super desperate.

Made it as I was desperate and nothing else sweet was in the house. It not good, but its definitely edible and you can eat it and it doesn't taste awful. I ommitted the oil cause I had no oil (subbed in more milk) and it was a little rubbery but I have low standards so worked for me!
