  1. Snip the ends off the sausages and squeeze out the meat. Roll into rough walnut-sized meatballs. Heat half the oil in a large, wide pan and fry until browned, around 10 mins. Remove from pan and set aside.

  2. Add the rest of the oil to the pan. Tip in the onions, celery and carrots and fry for 10 mins until soft. Add garlic and cook for 1 min more. Tip in the tomatoes and stock. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 mins.

  3. Stir in the macaroni and return the meatballs. Simmer for about 10 mins until pasta is cooked and meatballs are cooked though. Stir in beans and heat until piping hot. Season, mix in parsley and serve.

This went down really well with the whole family! Was easy to make not expensive and has lots of veggies in it. I will definitely be making this again and can see it becoming a family favourite.

Added a few anchovies with the carrots, onion and celery and served with parmesan at the table for people to grate over theirs if wanted. Great family recipe guaranteed to cheer away any blues

I make this regularly as my eldest son loves it and always asks me to make it. Always buy sausages from my local butcher (less fat and tastes far better than supermarkets). It's cheap and doesn't feel to unhealthy and good with crusty bread. 5 stars!

Pep up the seasoning and this is great. Filled us all up. Really tasty and cheap especially when the sausages are on special.

added a bit of tomato ketchup towards the end (to help thicken and flavor)... this would be delicious with crusty bread.

Tried this and loved it. I halfed it, for just my hubby and I, and I used premade meatballs, I know cheating, however, it was good.

wow, that was REALLY tasty! I omitted canned tomatoes (not big fan) but added some tomato juice. I also used approx. 3/4 of chicken stock and poured it bit by bit when the stew got a bit dry. Super hearty and delicious dish, perfect to finish a day out!

Used fusilli pasta and the sauce clung beautifully to the pasta shape. The sauce was a good consistency, neither thin nor gloopy. No problems with sticking and didn't need to top up fluid. Add a little tomato puree with tomatoes and maybe simmered a little longer to cook pasta but made it on the top of a Rayburn. Anyway, the whole family enjoyed this and said they would like it again. Even a hit with my small son who isn't a big pasta fan.
