Homemade Chinese hoisin sauce that tastes better than shop bought stuff.

  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seed oil
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (more or less to taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper


    Put all the ingredients into a blender and blitz to a smooth liquid. It's as simple as that!

I make this regularly, whenever I make 'Turkey Duck pancakes' with a couple of minor changes. I add an extra tbsp of peanut butter to thicken it a little, an extra couple of teaspoons of sugar as I don't find it quite sweet enough, and I also add half a teaspoon of Chinese 5 spice. Thanks for the recipe!

Apologies, the black pepper is indeed in your own recipe.

This one is the same as my own copy from apart from an additional 1/8th tsp of black pepper!
