Indulgent no bake chocolate snacks containing marshmallow and digestive biscuits.

  • 200g Dark Chocolate (70% cocoa solids works best)
  • 2-3 tbsp Golden Syrup
  • 135g Butter or Margarine
  • 100g Mini Marshmallows (chopped regular marshmallows work too)
  • 200g Digestive biscuits (rich tea can also be used)
  • Icing sugar to dust
  • Optional Ingredients
  • Raisins, dried cranberries or any dried fruit
  • Nuts
  • Anything else you think would be tasty
  • Please share any additional ingredients you included or things you did differently. Remember if using additional ingredients to change the amount of biscuit and marshmallow accordingly so as to have enough mixture to cover them.


    1. Line a small to medium sized square baking tray with baking paper.
    2. Place biscuits into a freezer bag and bash with a rolling pin or just the side of your fist until they're broken into a mixture of everything between dust and 50p size lumps. Put this to one side.
    3. In a large sauce pan melt the butter, chocolate and golden syrup over a gentle heat stiring it constantly until there are no or almost no more lumps of chocolate visible, then remove from the heat.
    4. Take Biscuits, marshmallows and any additional delicious ingredients and pour into the pan of the chocolate mixture. Stir all this into the mixture until everything is completely covered.
    5. Tip the mixture into the lined baking tray, making sure you get it all, and spread the mixture out to the corners.
    6. Refrigerate this for at least 2 hours then dust with icing sugar and cut into fingers of sizes you deem necessary.

This really works! I tried it because previously I have used the bowl over water method of melting chocolate which is a bit haphazard. I didn't have any golden syrup but it worked fine and I used dried cranberries soaked in sherry and pistachios without marshmallow. Fabulous 5 stars

I also used cocoa powder and water instead of dark chocolate

I added milk chocolate, Pink marvelous creations by cadbury's, raisins, sultanas and glace cherries but kept all amounts the same. AMAZING

Really delicious and so quick to make. I used 100g dark chocolate, 100g milk chocolate and butter (not marg) I also added Rice Krispies as well as biscuits and marshmallow.....Yum!

Delicious! I used half bourneville and half cooking milk chocolate and it turned out beautifully. 8" square tin gives a nice result which I cut into 16 squares...yum.

Tried this recipe last night. It's reassuring to see others who found it sticky as mine is best eaten with a spoon. As some folks's seem to be ok I can't understand why some isn't. I'll definitely be trying a different recipe. Just a thought. Could it be that I used marg instead of butter. Did anybody else with sticky roads use marg

The first time I made this it was very sticky (used half butter, half Vitalite) but only used 125g fat as misread recipe. Also used 3 tbs of golden syrup. Second time round, got a much better set with 125 g half butter, half Vitalite and 2 tbs golden syrup, but it took 5 + hours in the fridge to get a good set. I also wonder if the biscuit makes a difference - I like the crunch of rich tea. Dried cranberries in the second batch worked really well.

OMG!! These are YUMMY, just done a batch for tomorrows Easter egg hunt/ bake sale not sure they'll last that long! Used half milk half dark as suggested and threw in dried mixed fruit and crushed walnuts too, scrummy.
