Ingredients

  • 325g plain flour
  • 200g chilled salted butter
  • 125g/4½oz golden caster sugar
  • 2 tsp good-quality vanilla extract
  • 2 large free range egg yolks

Method

  1. Tip the flour into a food processor. Cut the butter into small pieces and drop them into the bowl, then whizz until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.

  2. Add the sugar, vanilla and egg yolks and whizz to a small dough.

Have made these many times now and they are a really big hit at the wife's work, always getting orders for these. And really ease to make.. I dip them in chocolate and add crushed nuts..

Made these recently with my young daughter and we both had a great time. We made some smaller biscuits and a big round biscuit for the family. We decorated the top with choc buttons and icing sugar. Have to say they are very nice, the in-laws loved the large round we made for them :)

The best recipe yet for shortbread. Must admit the first batch were a bit overcooked as I wasn't sure about oven temp or length of cooking time. Second batch (on 180c for 15 mins) were perfect. Delicious!!!

How can this recipe have been tested when there is no oven temp. or cooking time? This is very basic information when writing a recipe.

cooking these as a extra little valentines gift for my girlfriend, as we both moved in together this month we dont have any money and decided to make valentines this year.... after spending over 2 hours making her cards ive finally decided to makes these and cut them into heart shapes..... there is alot of comments on how long they take to cook and at what temperature... im not sure which one to follow, seeing as she doestn trust my cooking anyway i want these to turn out good... HELP
