Method

  1. Fry the apple and the onion in the vegetable oil until starting to soften. Coat the meat in seasoned flour, add to the frying pan until starting to brown.
  2. Stir in the stock and bring to the boil. Add the remaining ingredients and bring back to the boil.
  3. Transfer to the slow cooker and cook on slow for about 5 - 6 hours.

    Lovely recipe, beef was melt in the mouth and the sauce lovely and fruity - will definitely be doing this again!

    Great recipe. I agree with Woody - needed longer in my slow cooker. Changes I made, 400g tin of tomatoes and 200 ml of beef stock (oxo cube). I diced 1 cooking apple into largish cubes, instead of slicing 2 apples. I also put the flour and curry powder into a plastic bag together, then shook the meat in this mixture to coat. Will definitely make this again. Mo

  • 3tbsp veg oil
  • 2 medium cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 lrg onion, chopped
  • 1lb stewing steak, cubed
  • 3tbsp plain flour
  • 3tbsp medium curry powder
  • 400ml beef stock
  • salt and pepper
  • 3tbsp mango chutney
  • 75g sultanas
  • 200g tin chopped toms
  • 2tbsp lemon juice
