I tried this recipe today - just as a trial to go with some mince pies. I made a third of the recipe, the only change being a couple of drops of vanilla essence as no beans handy. Added more brandy as there was not much flavour of it. We thought there was a slight sour taste that one gets from using crème fraîche. Might try it with single cream. Easy to make but not overly excited by it.
