Get to the heart of the burn with Pyrocalm’s top tips for reducing your symptoms, so you can spend more time enjoying life
Summer is finally here, which means you’re probably planning lots of sunny getaways and days out with your loved ones. You might be packing your bags for a family holiday abroad, gearing up for your favourite food or music festivals, or prepping your outfit for a friend’s wedding. And there’s likely to be lots of picnics, barbecues and other al fresco meals on offer in between, too.
Of course, if you suffer from heartburn, you might find that savouring all this seasonal fun isn’t always easy. That’s why Pyrocalm is here to share a few simple ways you can try to prevent it.
The main symptom of heartburn is a burning feeling in your chest, caused by stomach acid travelling up towards your throat – also known as acid reflux. Other symptoms can include an unpleasant sour taste in your mouth (caused by the acid), a cough or hiccups that keep coming back, a hoarse voice, bad breath and bloating or feeling sick.1
Heartburn is usually worse after eating or drinking, and when lying down or bending over, as these positions make it easier for the acid to travel back up.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help reduce heartburn, so here are just a few small changes you can make to try to minimise the chance of it happening.1
Smoking and consuming certain foods and drinks can cause or worsen your symptoms. Common culprits include coffee, tomatoes, alcohol, chocolate and fatty or spicy foods.
Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help lower your risk of experiencing heartburn.
Aim to eat at least three or four hours before bed. You can also prop up your head and shoulders while you sleep to help prevent stomach acid travelling up towards your throat.
Stress and anxiety can contribute to heartburn, as they can impact your digestive system.
If you have heartburn and lifestyle changes aren’t helping, it’s best to speak to your GP or pharmacist. They may recommend a treatment such as omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes.2
Pyrocalm Control is the first branded 20mg omeprazole available over the counter and it provides up to 24-hour confidence in heartburn control. It’s used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms in adults, including heartburn, acid regurgitation and acid reflux. Sold in packs of 7 and 14 gastro-resistant tablets, you can find it in high street pharmacies and major supermarkets.
