Tikka-style fish

Perfect for the barbecue - but don't let that stop you using the oven if the typical English weather arrives - use whichever fish you prefer

Method

  1. Slash the skin of the whole fish, if using, on each side with a sharp knife. Mix the ginger and garlic, season with salt, then rub all over the fish.
  2. Mix the yogurt with the oil, spices and seasoning. Use to coat the fish inside and out, then chill until ready to cook.
  3. TO BARBECUE: Cook straight on the rack (or on foil if you are afraid of it sticking) for 6-8 mins each side for the whole fish, or 3-4 mins for the tuna steaks. Cooking time will depend on how hot your barbecue is when you start.

    I've put the fish under the grill and the taste is fantastic! Original way of preparing fish fast and with a few ingredients.

    Lovely recipe. Used Sea Bream and cooked on the BBQ. Sauce didn't overpower the fish. Very tasty and simple.

    Used salmon steaks instead - wrapped in foil and did in the oven - ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, a firm favourite. Lovely served with the indian summer salad on the site.

    I would really like to try this dish but not using a BBQ (I dont have one) was wondering how long it would take in the oven and how hot it should be if I were to bake it like Claire B? Any ideas anyone.

    I make this dish regularly. It's always a success. I've served it with the tomato coriander and cucumber salad and also the Indian summer salad.

    I made this with trout and did it on the bbq. it was lovely! it did stick to the bbq though but i'd rather that than stick it in foil because if you're going to do that you might as well cook it in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp finely grated fresh root ginger
  • 4 garlic cloves , finely grated or crushed
  • 2 whole sea bream or red snapper (about 900g/2lb each) or 6 fish steaks like tuna
