Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Drizzle half the oil into a small casserole or pie dish and rub all over, then place one steak inside. Scatter over some of the garlic, followed by a layer of onion and tomatoes, then a layer of potatoes on top. Season, then repeat the layers, finishing with the potato.
  2. Drizzle with the remaining oil and then cover the casserole with a tightly fitting lid or cover the pie dish with a double layer of foil. Transfer to the oven for 2 hrs. Remove the lid or foil, turn the oven up to 220C/fan 200C/gas 7 and cook for 30 mins more until the top is golden brown. Serve with some green vegetables.

Great mid-week supper - for someone who normally prefers a rare steak, this one was surprisingly tender and full of fresh flavour from the garlic and tomatoes. This one's a keeper!

This is really easy to prepare and can be pretty much left alone once it is in the oven. Steak was really tender but next time I would use more seasoning. Would definately make this again!

Easy to make, and basically cooks itself; results in great tender meat and a really satisfying supper

I didn't have a dish deep enough to stack the layers so had to make in two individual dishes. The meal turned out ok but could have done with something extra, perhaps more seasoning

This one works for me - but just needs a bit more garlic and tomato for me. It's so easy.

I've cooked this a few times and it's always fab. Who would have thought that so few ingredients and very little preparation would taste so great!

This is a lovely meal. The meat is tender and full of flavour. I add a little beef stock to make a garlicky gravy. Delicious.
