  • Milk (just under one cup)
  • 1 Tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice


    1. 1. Place a Tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice in a liquid measuring cup.
    2. 2. Add enough milk to bring the liquid up to the one-cup line.
    3. 3. Let stand for five minute. Then, use as much as your recipe calls for.

Cup is an American measurement, when converted to mls it's equal to 250mls. And thank you to who ever posted this originally, couldn't find it in my french supermarket, now I'm sorted

Thank you to the person who posted this - if you're reading this, know that you saved me having to go back to the shops! Not sure why people are complaining about the cup thing, every supermarket sells measuring cups. And it's not like the Good Food website posted it, it's come from a fellow cook / baker who thought they'd help out others.

Not sure why US cup measurements are being offered. I'd searched specifically for UK measurements - this is the BBC website isn't it? Please give UK measurements. Ta

An American fluid cup measure is 240 ml or 16 tablespoons

What is one cup?? In the UK most of us use fluid ounces or mililitres. Update please!

The dirty old measurement known as a Cup amounts to: 227 ml 240 ml US Cup 250 ml Australia 280 ml Imperial Cup So yeah, can't think why anyone would complain about using such a clear and transparent measurement :)

According to a uk cup equals 8fluid ounces whereas in America this is more 240 ml or 16 tablespoons and in Australia this is 250 ml. Given that UK doesn't tend to use cups in recipes perhaps go with the American measure if you aren't sure and then adjust for future recipes depending on results.
