  • 125g Dairy Free Margarine ( Vitalite is good, really soft)
  • 100g Dairy Free Chocolate ( Kinnerton)
  • 50g Ground Almonds
  • 80g Cocoa
  • 70g Self Raising Flour
  • 300g Caster Sugar
  • 4 Medium Eggs

    1. Pre heat the oven to 180/160 fan
    2. Grease or line a 25cm square baking tin
    3. In a large glass, heat proof bowl place the chocolate and the margarine and set it over a pan of simmering water. Do not allow the bowl to touch the water.
    4. Stir until glossy and set aside
    5. In a bowl mix the cocoa, flour, sugar and almonds then pour into the chocolate mixture. This makes a very thick paste
    6. Whisk the eggs in a cup and add to the bowl. Mix well until smooth and silky
    7. Pour into the prepared tin and cook for 25 minutes. The top will look crusty yet the brownie beneath will still be quite soft.
    8. Allow to cool. Cut into slices and store in air tight container. Best eaten same day or next.

Delicious. Came out perfect. I made them for a dairy free, gluten free friend. I used Doves farm gluten free plain flour and 3/4 teaspoon of baking powder and they were great. I've also made them with ordinary chocolate and flour and they brilliant. Thank you for this excellent recipe.

Excellent recipe. I didn't have correct pan so adjusted cooking time which ended up being 50 minutes but they were perfect. I used dairy free Sweet William chocolate chips and organic refined coconut oil (no coconut taste). My dairy free grandbaby loved them and so did everyone else! Still scrummy 2 days on, I think they have a longer shelf life than stipulated. I'll be making them often and will also try with berries.

Delicious. Having to be dairy free doesnt have to be boring. this recipe is fab....i added suggested blueberries and also walnut pieces and I used Green and Black's 70% instead of Kinnerton as it is dairy free as far as i can see...ran out of cocoa and only had half= 25g of fat reduced cocoa...I didnt have a slice pan so I did it in a square cake tin and had to cook for 50 mins. Utterly divine and perfectly chocolatey....health food husband scoffed half while i put the baby to bed. Even my dairy free baby enjoyed a few crumbs after lunch today...it is all gone and has been requested for wednesday's visitors! best brownie ever!

This is an excellent recipe, perhaps the best brownie I have ever tasted. I added slightly less sugar than the recipe called for, and they were still sweet and tender. I also cooked them for slightly longer to give them a really nice crust and I made a double recipe. I definitely recommend this recipe!

Fantastic! My cousin Niamh and I made these for the first time when I was staying with her in Reading. I've made them other friends and family members since, all of which have taken a copy of the recipe away. My boss (I work in a pub which does ALOT of home cooked food) said it was the best brownie he had ever tasted :-D I was thrilled, ha ha. Anyway, definitely go for this recipe, it's great!!!!
