Ingredients

Apple Bottom

  • 2 large apples ( more can be used if you want more apple than crumble)
  • 50g of sugar (more if you prefer a sweet taste to the apples)
  • a pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Crumble topping

  • 2 large apples ( more can be used if you want more apple than crumble)
  • 50g of sugar (more if you prefer a sweet taste to the apples)
  • a pinch of cinnamon (optional)
  • 350g of flour
  • 250g of butter (room temerature)
  • 200g of sugar (any type will work it depends on you preference)

Method

  • STEP 1
Preheat your oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4
  • STEP 2
Start by putting a very small amount of sugar into the bottom of you dish or what ever you are using to cooking the crumble in you want it to just cover the bottom.
  • STEP 3
Then peel your apples and slice them into thin slices, lay them out on the bottom of the dish and here you can see if you want more apple in your dish. sprinkle the remaining sugar (from the 50g for the apple bottom) on top of the apples along with the cinnamon.
  • STEP 4
Now start your crumble topping, here you want to add all of the ingredients for your crumble topping and mix them with your hands until you have a crumbly texture, you don't want the pieces to be too small and if you feel that they are not binding correctly then you can add more butter.
  • STEP 5
Bake in the oven for 50 mins or until the crumble is a golden brown and the fruit mixture is bubbling and looks a darker colour.
  • STEP 6
Serve with custard, cream or ice cream
