a sweet dessert made with tomatoes with a hint of ginger .a fantastic finish to any indian meal.

  • large salad tomatoes-10
  • white granulated sugar-400 gms
  • root ginger-4 cms
  • black mustard seeds-1 tspf
  • salt-1 pinch
  • cooking oil-1/2 tspf


    1. finely chop tomatoes and set aside
    2. heat the oil till it clears add the mustard seeds and wait till they start popping
    3. add the chopped tomatoes,salt,sugar and grated ginger
    4. simmer on low heat till the tomatoes soften and start cooking in their own juice
    5. add 1 cup of boiled water and cook till the chutney looks deep red and glistening
    6. serve with poppadums after cooling in the fridge for half an hour
