  • 170g/6oz self-raising wholemeal flour
  • 170g/6oz plain flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 290ml/½ pint buttermilk

    Method

    • step 1

      Preheat oven to 200c Mix dry ingredients in a bowl
    • step 2

      Add buttermilk
    • step 3

      Form a dough ball, don't knead
    • step 4

      Lay on dusted baking tray, cut a cross in the middle

    Really quick and just like the real Irish soda bread

    So easy to make and a great result with very little effort! Will definitely make again and great for a quick loaf when you've run out of bread.
