Ingredients

  • 500g Stewing Steak Chopped into 1" cubes.
  • 1tbs Olive oil
  • 4 x Medium Onions Chopped
  • 12 x Cloves of Garlic Chopped
  • 1" Piece of Ginger Chopped
  • 2 x Red Chillies Chopped
  • 1/2tsp of Chilli Powder
  • 1tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2.5tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2tsp Paprika Powder
  • 1/2tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 x Beef Stock Cube
  • 1tsp Marmite
  • 2tsp Pataks Madras Curry Paste
  • 1 400g Tin Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1tbs Tomato Purée
  • Salt & Sugar to taste.

Method

  • STEP 1
    SAUCE. Fry onions, garlic & ginger in olive oil until soft. Add chillies & all spices, fry for 2 mins. Add madras paste & small amount of water to create a gravy, bring to boil. Add stock cube Add can of chopped tomatoes. 1/2 fill tomato can with water & add to sauce, bring to boil & simmer for about 20 mins. Add Marmite & Tomato purée. Take off heat & blend with stick blender until sauce is smooth. Add Salt &Sugar to taste. Add more water if requiring a thinner sauce.
  • STEP 2
    THE CURRY Add the stewing steak into a slow cooker, add the SAUCE. Cook for about 7 hours.
  • STEP 3
    Tip....Sauce can be made the night before, then just add to slow cooker in the morning.
