  • 8oz gram flour
  • 1-2 teaspoon chilli powder (depends how hot you like it)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large onions (finely sliced)
  • 7fl oz water

Oil for frying

  • Sesame seeds

Method

  • step 1

    Mix the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well
  • step 2

    Add the sliced onions and mix well
  • step 3

    Add the water and mix well
  • step 4

    Drop heaped spoons of the onion batter into the oil (make these as small or large as you like, I find usually a heaped spoon full is just right)
  • step 5

    Fry them a few at a time 5-6 mins each, or till nicely browned, pop onto kitchen roll (to drain some of the fat) and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
