  • 2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 3 tbsp clear honey
  • splash orange juice
  • 4 pork loin steaks or chops, trimmed of fat
  • 4 heads bok choi, halved lengthways

  1. Mix the five-spice powder, honey and enough orange juice to loosen, then smear over the chops. Leave to marinate for 10 mins.

  2. Heat grill to medium, then grill the chops for 4-5 mins on each side, basting with any leftover glaze, until cooked through.

  3. Steam the heads of bok choi for 2 mins until wilted. Serve with the pork chops, drizzled with any juices and glaze from the grill pan.

This is a very quick and simple dish, which is great to do if you haven't got much time.

I didn't have a lot of honey so I used half honey and half maple syrup - yummy. I used spare rib steaks rather than chops as I find them less dry and the marbling of fat makes them more tender. I imagine the marinade would be nice with a dash of apple juice instead of orange juice, or maybe a spoonful of apple sauce added.

Quick & simple to prepare using ingredients you'll probably have in the cupboard. Cheers up a boring pork chop & keeps it moist & tender with nice flavours & simple juices. Not amazing enough to do for a dinner party but excellent for mid week dinner. Will def cook this again.

My husband cooked this yesterday and it was yummy. He's not a cook at all, but he found this really quick and easy. He also cook the steak in the oven, not a stand and watch sort of man lol. The steaks were lovely and tender and the kids wanted more. We had mash and veg with it, but think I would of done wild rice with it.
