Sage is renowned for its stylish, professional-grade coffee machines, and the Bambino Plus is yet another example of this. It has a robust brushed-metal body, tough plastic water tank and textured controls that are built to last, and it produces rich, thick espresso, too.

In testing, we liked its temperature control settings and milk steamer, which is capable of frothing milk for smooth lattes or frothy cappuccinos.

Panasonic SDR2530KXC breadmaker

Our expert reviews team was so impressed by the wealth of settings offered by this machine, that they awarded it 4.5/5 stars. There are 30 programmes altogether, including a good range of gluten-free settings, dough-only, and a fruit and nut dispenser.

We also loved this model's landscape design and that it allows for full customisation – there are three different size options and browning levels to choose from. It also baked quickly and produced rustic, handmade-looking loaves that tasted great, too.

KitchenAid Artisan 125 stand mixer

Anyone who adds 'stand mixer' to their Christmas wish list this year will likely have their eye on this top-performing KitchenAid model. It's one of the brand's most iconic products, and as with all KitchenAid mixers it comes with 10 speed settings on a sliding scale.

A good food processor will make light work of monotonous tasks like cutting, chopping and slicing, but what sets this 2.3-litre model apart is its varied functionality.

The pesto we made with this food processor had an almost smooth texture with a good balance of chunkiness. We also used the grater attachment for prepping carrots, which produced uniform results in a matter of seconds.
