Method

  1. Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Melt half the butter in a non-stick pan. Cook the onion for 3-4 mins, then increase the heat and add the mince. Fry for a further 3-4 mins until the beef has browned. Stir in the stock, Worcestershire sauce, tomato purée and some seasoning. Gently bubble for 15-20 mins until the mince is tender and the sauce has thickened.
  2. To assemble, cut the jacket potato in half lengthways and scoop the flesh into a small bowl, leaving the skin intact. Mash the potato with the remaining butter and season well. Divide the mince between the potato skins, then cover with the mash. Transfer the potatoes to a baking dish, sprinkle with cheese, then bake for 15-20 mins until golden. Serve with your favourite veg.

    Im sorry, but you do know shepherd's pie is made with Lamb? This dish is made with beef, so should be called cottage pie potato's

    Really tasty but took far too long to make! However the mince itself tastes really nice in a wrap with salad and cheese.

    This was incredible, well worth the time it took to prepare! Can prepare more and you'll have a tasty cold snack for when you're feeling peckish in those early morning hours.

    Much more visually appealing and appetizing than a huge cream field of mashed potato in a dish. A little fiddly but not difficult. As somebody else mentioned - a filling snack, even cold. Would work just as well with a bolognese or chilli con carne sauce.

    The end result was very yummy. It was however really fiddly and messy to make and took a long time. I thought afterwards that I would rather have had a normal shepherds pie to show for all my efforts. Boyfriend thought they were great though so looks like I might be making them again anyway!
