Method

  1. Heat oven to 220C/fan 200C/gas 7. Make a couple of slashes in both sides of the fish and rub with half the curry paste. Heat the oil in a roasting tray, then fry the potatoes and onion for about 8 mins until starting to brown.

  2. Stir the remaining curry paste into the potatoes, then sit the fish on top and roast for 20-25 mins until the fish and potatoes are cooked.

  3. Lift the fish onto plates, then place the potatoes back over a high heat. Add the spinach to the pan and cook for 3-4 mins until completely wilted. Scoop out and serve with the fish.

really easy and good recipe to follow found it quite easy to make, im 14 and didn't have any trouble, although I did keep the potatoes in a little bit more. :) x

This recipe was delicious and really reasonable as we picked fresh mackerel up from Asda for £1.38 each! We used Pataks Korma paste and I squeezed loads of fresh lemon on when serving. Will definitely be cooking again.

Fabulous! We only used the curry paste on the mackerel and ignored the instruction to stir in with the potatoes which I think would have been curry paste overload! Delicious and very easy!

Very tasty and easy to do. One suggestion though: if you do the potatoes and Mackerel in separate tins then the potatoes would taste less fishy.

Fantastic & yummy scrummy! This one's definitely on the must have more often list!
Caught the mackerel last night and cooked it tonight.
Tried it with a Tikka Masala paste but will be swapping this out for the Madras next time.

Would also recommend the BBQ'd Mackerel with Chilli, Ginger & Lime drizzle.

I live in Paris and Friday is the day for my local market. On my favourite fish stall I saw a special offer - 5 good-sized mackerel for 3 Euros; I bought them. Then I wondered about how I should cook them and I stumbled on this recipe by chance (and thanks to Mr Google).

I followed the recipe and served it with a glass of chilled Reisling from Alsace.

It turned out looking like the photo - how often does that happen?In my opinion, it was a delight and I shall definitely be cooking it again and again .....

A nice, easy way to cook mackerel - I'll definitely be making this again. Next time I will use a milder curry paste, though: the 'authentic fish masala' one I used was much too strong, and completely smothered the flavour of the mackerel. I cooked an extra mackerel and had it cold, with salad, for lunch the next day - very good indeed!

I wish I could like mackerel, but there is a nasty layer of fat under the skin and though I try to ignore it it puts me off, if anyone can tell me a way of cooking this fish and getting the fat out of the way please tell I know it's good for you, :0

I would recommend that the potatoes are cooked for about 15 minutes instead first as some of the potatoes were not cooked through properly. I used a jalfrezi curry paste as this is what I had in the cupboard.

The curry flavours mixed well with the mackerel and the spinach and potatoes combined made a very nice dish.

Will make again.

This is a really simple recipe and a great way to cook mackerel, adding extra flavour and taking away some of the oiliness of the fish. I used slightly less curry paste and the taste was just about perfect. The potatoes were delicious and I also added diced carrots to the onion/potato mix. Great hit with my husband too!

This was really delicious and very very easy to make. This was my first time cooking mackerel and I was really impressed. I'll use less curry paste next time though, it was a bit too hot for me, and much to hot for my husband! The potatoes were sublime!

Great recipe which takes the greasiness out of the makeral. I tend to be generous with the curry paste !
