Ingredients

  • 400g can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • garlic clove, chopped
  • handful of flat-leaf parsley or curly parsley
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1⁄2 tsp harissa paste or chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 2 tbsp sunflower oil
  • toasted pitta bread
  • 200g tub tomato salsa, to serve
  • green salad, to serve
  • 1 small red onion, roughly chopped

Method

  1. Pat the chickpeas dry with kitchen paper. Tip into a food processor along with the onion, garlic, parsley, spices, flour and a little salt. Blend until fairly smooth, then shape into four patties with your hands.
  2. Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan, add the burgers, then quickly fry for 3 mins on each side until lightly golden. Serve with toasted pittas, tomato salsa and a green salad.

I did enjoy these burgers but a bit on the bland side!
I think I may try chopping peppers and courgettes up to put in the next ones :)

so simple! delicious. as one other commenter said, it takes longer to clean the food processor than to make these!

Loved these!

I will definitely be making again. Perhaps in batches with some more fragrant and spicy alternatives. The recipe here makes a great base to get your imagination going . . . .

Thai infused versions with coriander, lime zest and lemon grass.
Indian infused versions with touch of indian spices.
Mediterranean flavoured with plenty of basil, finely chopped pepper . . . . .

I could go on. But I think you get the jest of it. I love them!

delicious!! we included a small can of kidney beans too and made our own salsa with cherry tomatoes and red onion finely chopped - a very satisfying meal

Made it yesterday and loved it!!! so quick and easy! next time will make double portions becasue it was soooooo good!!! even my meatloving hubby loved it! Served it with chunky oven chips (recipe from this website - by G.Ramsey)

Found this recipe 15min ago, had all the ingredients in the house so went and made some. Very, very quick and easy to make and taste great too. Would make these again and again :)

These burgers are very good!! And so easy and quick to make! I didn't have a food processor so I used a hand mixer and it worked the same!

A great lunch time meal. Made a few alterations/additions. Used cumin seeds not ground, 2 cloves of garlic, added half tsp smoked paprika, handful of chopped parsley AND coriander, half plain and half self raising flour and 1 tspn tahini which definitely helped to bind the ingredients. Served with shop bought tomato salsa but think next time will use fresh tomatoes and houmous as well. Fried in 1 tbsn olive oil for a couple of minutes each side. Perfect.

AMAZING. Just make sure you don't add too much flour, otherwise it starts to crumble. Amazing. We smear the inside of the pitta breads with houmous before we eat and it's really lovely.

Yummy but a bit more seasoning would be needed mine were slightly bland but some homemade salsa (tomato, coriander, red onion, birdseye chili, lime juice and salt) perk it up!

I love these falafel burgers, always make double the quantity because they go quickly. Also I wrap them in tortillas with lots of crunchy lettuce and tomato salsa. For a kick, add extra harissa paste or chilli flakes. Also I find that they have a nicer crunch if I make them smaller (i.e. 6 from one batch) and then fry them in hot oil. If they are too big, they get a bit difficult to handle and squidgy.

Really nice recipe - Even my fussy 17 month old wolfed them down oblivious he was eating vegetables! I also blended in some bell peppers and grated carrot, lovely!

Just had these with homemade spicy potato wedges...they were absolutely delicious!...I'm vegetarian as are the rest of my family...with the exception of my eldest 21 year old daughter.,..even she liked the burgers....will definitely make them again!
