What is Meals Make Memories?

Sainsbury’s and Comic Relief believe everyone deserves access to the happy memories that great-quality, nutritious food can bring. For many of us, food is deeply rooted in joyful moments. But for the 14 million people across the UK experiencing food insecurity*, these moments can be harder to find.

Meals Make Memories is part of Sainsbury’s ongoing partnership with Comic Relief to help tackle food poverty in the UK. It celebrates the powerful role food plays in people’s lives, while shining a light on the reality faced by millions who still miss out. The partnership is built on a shared vision of a future where everyone can experience this joy, every mealtime, no matter their background or circumstances.

How has Sainsbury's and Comic Relief's partnership helped so far?

Since 2022, thanks to more than £24m of funding, Sainsbury’s partnership with Comic Relief has donated 59 million meals to families who need it most.

Together, they raised more than £2.6m this summer to fund one million meals for children and families experiencing food poverty during the school holidays, while also funding more than 100,000 holiday club places across the UK since March. This helped families to balance the competing costs of childcare, food and activities during the school holidays by providing children with free, healthy meals and access to memory-making activities, such as cooking, music lessons and sports.

And now, this Christmas, Sainsbury’s and Comic Relief are working with food redistribution charities, such as FareShare and City Harvest, to donate a further five million meals during the winter months, ensuring they reach people experiencing food insecurity. These organisations offer vital support, while also helping to tackle food waste, and the meals donated will help more families to access nutritious food over the Christmas period and beyond.

A Recipe For...

Meals Make Memories has also seen the launch of A Recipe For..., a new vodcast that’s designed to start a conversation about the realities of food poverty. Each episode features a cherished recipe from a well-known guest or someone directly tackling food poverty, along with stories about how food connects us and what’s lost when it’s out of reach.
