‘Tis the season for indulging in delicious food and drink, and what festive season would be complete without a delectable charcuterie board? Whether you enjoy yours snuggled on the sofa with your family and a glass of your favourite, or you make it your centrepiece when hosting a get-together with friends, you'll want to ensure your platter features nothing but the best - and Lidl has just the thing.
Sweet, balanced and delicate, prosciutto di Parma deserves to take the spotlight on any charcuterie board - although it will help make salads and starters shine, too - and Lidl's Deluxe original Italian Parma ham is a surefire way to add a sprinkle of magic to yours.
Produced by the same Italian family for more than 30 years, this PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) ham owes its melt-in-the-mouth texture and wonderful umami flavour to its unique location and, of course, the love and care of the skilled artisans who craft it.
Here, producer Davide shares what makes the Deluxe original Italian Parma ham so very special...
“Our family-run business has been committed to producing the best Italian products for more than 30 years and our collaboration with Lidl goes way back to 1996,” says Davide. “The inimitable climatic and environmental conditions of our hills, combined with the talented artisans who have passed on the craft from one generation to the next, make prosciutto di Parma a truly unique product.”
The ham is made exclusively from Italian pork that's reared and preserved in only 11 regions of central and northern Italy, because these locations are ideal for producing a superior ham. “It's cured in the microclimate of the hilly region around Parma,” explains Davide.
“The salty air of the Tyrrhenian Sea passes through the olive trees of the Val Magra and softens among the chestnut groves of the Parma hills. It's then seasoned for a minimum of 14 months.” The result is a wonderfully aromatic meat that boasts an aftertaste of red fruits.
So, you know how Lidl’s Deluxe original Italian Parma ham is made, but how does Davide recommend you enjoy it? “It's mild and delicate taste makes it perfect for enjoying on its own,” he says, “but it also pairs beautifully with melon, mozzarella and figs. It can transform any sandwich, too, and gives a touch of originality to every dish.”
