Jessica Ennis-Hill's diet

What is your typical daily diet when training for a big event?

Breakfast:
I try to vary what I eat and include lots of fresh fruit, yogurts and porridge, which provides slow releasing energy for the rest of the day.

Lunch:
Something like grilled chicken, salad and fresh vegetables with rice or pasta.

Dinner:
A typical dinner would perhaps be a pasta bake or grilled steak and a salad.

How do you keep your diet varied and do you ever get bored with eating for your sport?

I think it is important to enjoy food and not just see it as sustenance. I love to cook and am always trying out new recipes.

What super food/juice/meal helps you get out of bed and motivated on those particularly dreary mornings?

The food that helps me get up and motivated in the morning are kiwi fruits – I love them!

What’s your trusted snack for an energy boost?

A banana or some dried mango works well.

How do you stay hydrated when training?

I drink lots of water and when I need an extra boost energy drinks such as Powerade are good.

When competition season is over what are your favourite food indulgences?

I love Thai and Italian food, and the odd glass of red wine.

What would be your top diet and exercise tip for the amateur athlete?

To try and keep both your diet and the exercise you do varied and interesting. You’re more likely to keep it up if you don’t get bored with it.

Aside from your speciality, what is your favourite sport/exercise?

I like watching Formula One, I am a speed freak!

What is your favourite recipe?

It's impossible to pick a favourite, I am always trying out new ones!
