Swan Gatsby ST14082 four-slice toaster summary
This four-slot toaster has been packed with functions that combined, mean it's not just style over substance.
Two sets of adjustable controls allows pairs to be toasted separately, for example allowing bagel slices to toast in one half whilst the other defrosts frozen tiger bread. Seven toasting settings are available, but we'd advise only using the first five as the additional two get too hot.
There are two removable crumb trays at the back which release for easy cleaning. Thanks to the bread lift, you can avoid poking around in the slots with a pair of tongs for the hot slices.
The unique textured body of the toaster is available in black or white, both with gold details.

Swan Gatsby four-slice toaster results
Slot-width is an important factor when looking at a four-slice toaster and the Gatsby handled thickly cut artisan slices well.
Unfortunately there was an inch left un-browned on our tallest slices of bread. However, the warmth had toasted those sections despite leaving them un-browned so the contrast in texture was not too stark.
For the bagel function, both halves were toasted on one side whilst warmed through on the other, gaining them full-marks for effectiveness. Because of the higher sugar content in fruit loaf, the raisins caught when toasted at the same setting as the normal loaf. Level three on the other hand, produced a more gently toasted slice.
We tested the reheat function with a cooled toasted slice and it warmed through gently after just under a minute. Lastly, the defrost function did exactly as you'd hope, the slice was just warmed.
Who would the Swan Gatsby toaster be good for?
There's a strong style factor to this Swan model but when it comes to performance alone, it's a really solid mid-range toaster that's worthy of its price tag.
