  • 1 large ripe tomato

A member of the nightshade family (along with aubergines, peppers and chillies), tomatoes are in…

  • 3 avocado, very ripe but not bruised

Although it's technically a fruit, the mild-flavoured avocado is used as a vegetable. Native…

  • juice 1 large lime

The same shape, but smaller than…

  • handful coriander, leaves and stalks chopped, plus a few leaves, roughly chopped, to serve
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 chilli, red or green, deseeded and finely chopped

Part of the capsicum family, chillies come in scores of varieties and colours (from green…

  • tortilla chips, to serve

  1. Use a large knife to pulverise the tomato to a pulp on a board, then tip into a bowl. Halve and stone the avocados (saving a stone) and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh into the bowl with the tomato.

  2. Tip all the other ingredients into the bowl, then season with salt and pepper. Use a whisk to roughly mash everything together. If not serving straight away, sit a stone in the guacamole (this helps to stop it going brown), cover with cling film and chill until needed. Scatter with the coriander, if using, then serve with tortilla chips or spicy wedges and sour cream.

So fresh and delicious. Great with tortilla chips and crudites. It was so flavoursome that I forgot that there was no garlic in it!

Made the guacomole to go with the chilli bean recipe as suggested. If I was to make it again I would use less lime juice which I thought prevaded a litlle too strongly. Okay but not amazing.

Just added salt and paprika to mine, very nice indeed

Just finished gobbling this up and it was delicious! Way better than shop bought and worth the effort. We didn't have any red onion so we used a spring onion and it worked just as well!

I make this often. The lime and the coriander are wonderful. I use this recipes when making fish tacos.

I loved this recipe! I blitzed it in the food processor just because I prefer a smoother guac but the flavours were lovely. Defo to be made again & again!

Just eating this now and really enjoying it! First time I have made my own Guacamole and am never going back to the supermarket option :) Added the garlic as suggested because I love garlic and only used half the onion = spot on.

I tried it with my friends and they all loved it!! I tried lemon juice and wasabi instead of pepper and it was really refreshing :)

Just made this as I got some cheap avocadoes.
Very tasty, used cherry toms and spring onions, the mix of crunchy onion and smooth avocado is great- using it to top my bbq'd burger :)

Just goes to show you don't need the natural yogurt and cream that some shop bought guacamole's use!!
