  • few extra chunks white, plain and milk chocolate, for decorating

Method

  1. Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Grease and line a 2lb/900g loaf tin with a long strip of baking parchment. To make the loaf cake batter, beat the butter and sugar with an electric whisk until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, flour, almonds, baking powder, milk and cocoa until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips, then scrape into the tin. Bake for 45-50 mins until golden, risen and a skewer poked in the centre comes out clean.

  2. Cool in the tin, then lift out onto a wire rack over some kitchen paper. Melt the extra chocolate chunks separately in pans over barely simmering water, or in bowls in the microwave, then use a spoon to drizzle each in turn over the cake. Leave to set before slicing.

Delicious chocolate loaf cake, I left out the ground almonds as I didn't have any in - used plain flour instead of self-raising but just put an extra tsp of baking powder in to compensate and added some chopped up hazelnuts as I love them with anything chocolatey. Overall a lovely moist cake, which took nearer 1 hour 10 mins to bake than 50 just kept an eye on it - will defo make again, my niece and nephews loved it.

This cake tasted nice i added melted plain and milk chocolate and i also added white chocolate chip. I also substituted almonds for hazelnut and it is really nice i will definetly make it again. yummy yummy

I slice my along and added some orange cream inside .,,was a well loved cake by many in our church . will be making this again for church events and cake sales.

Hubby loved it- i used Green and blacks cocoa and 90% dark chocolate- very dark.

Tempted next time to add some dark Ginger chocolate and ginger.

Once it started to go dry i microwaved it and poured over a little double cream :) for a tasty desert

I agree it was a very easy cake to make, however, like others, I found it needed much more cooking time than stated, and I had to increase the oven temperature, I think it took more like an hour for me and i've got a brand new oven.
With the stated cooking time the cake came out very wobbly, so was clearly not cooked.
Despite that, the cake is yummy and I'll make it again for sure.

I have just made this for the 2nd time. Each time it has taken a little over an hour to bake. I replaced the ground Almond with dis coconut and it was a very yummy twist!
